Each day the women go out and sweep the sidewalks in front of their houses. They also sweep the dirt and trash to the middle of the street. No one picks up the trash that is in the street.
There seems to be lots of trash around this "business"!
Construction trash is everywhere.
As far as we could tell there are no laws against littering, and no one seems to take responsibility for cleaning anything. If someone's flip flop breaks, he just leaves it wherever it broke. If someone finishes a drink in a plastic bottle, he just throws it down. One day we saw a man open the door of his house and throw a two liter bottle into the street and then close his front door. Another time one of our taxi drivers changed the seat covers in his taxi and threw the old ones out on the sidewalk and drove away! Even the beaches are covered with trash.
