The "Big Apartment"

In preparation for the arrival of Sharron and Jane, our co-workers in LST, the church men insisted that Ron and I move from the small apartment to a larger one in the same building. This larger one is the personal apartment of the businessman from Ghana who owns the entire building. (He is also the one who supports Arnold in his work of preaching. ) This big apartment is kept for his use during the 3 or 4 times per year that he is in Dakar to check on his businesses. The only room that we are not allowed to use is his personal bedroom, which is kept locked. As you will be able to see from the photos, this apartment is very nice!
First is the living room, which is very spacious. Notice the air conditioner on the left side of the back wall. It is not in working condition. The T.V. is not hooked up to cable and so does not work. (It was hooked up our very last night in Dakar!)

This is the dining table which doubles as an eating place and a work table! Notice the glass door and the metal roll-up shades, which are open in order to get any breeze.

Here is the kitchen with a nice refrigerator and a microwave.

There is no garbage disposal and no dishwasher! The dishes in the drain rack have to be covered with a towel to keep the dust off of them.

This is the entry hall. The open door is the door to the kitchen. The photo does not show the ironing board and iron, which we were happy to discover!

This next photo shows a small room that is off of the kitchen. It is used for washing laundry or for general cleaning. The only trouble is the design of the sink drain - it splashes onto the floor which has a sewer drain. Also, the floor is not sloping toward the drain. There is a divider at the front that should hold the water in the the drain area which is misplaced so that it makes the water splash out into the floor. The sink drains right onto the divider. Notice the open window ports above the sink. They cannot be closed, and the frequent dust storms keep this room covered in dirt.

Next is the guest bedroom, which is our bedroom.

The next view is still in the guest bedroom. Notice the laptop on the bed. Most of the time this is the only place in the apartment that we can get a WiFi Internet connection, and sometimes not even here! We only found this connection after being here for four weeks. It is so much easier to use than going to an internet cafe.

The next three photos are taken from the balcony off of the bedroom.

Next is a photo taken from the balcony of the dining area. We sometimes see children playing on the rooftops; one boy has been riding his bicycle up there.
