The School of Preaching and the Bible College

The Chimala School of Preaching (CSOP) trains native Tanzanians and men from neighboring African countries to preach. There have been over 200 graduates of the school. The school is taught in English and is an intensive 3-year program. The students have scholarships from supporters in the U.S. in order to be able to attend the school. The students have classroom studies as well as practical experiences. There are some native Tanzanians who teach in the school. Chris Raynor is the American missionary who is presently in charge of the school. He and his wife, Tam, are planning to return to the U.S. in December of this year.
The following picture shows the outside of the school.

Next to the School of Preaching is the Chimala Bible College (CBC). The CBC is also designed for native Africans. The classes at this school are taught in Swahilli rather than in English.
It takes about $100 per month to support a student here. That amount covers school materials, lodging, food, medical care, and a little pocket money. There is a dorm building and also some housing for married students and teachers.

Following is a photo of the outside of CBC. This is also the building where we had our Let's Start Talking lessons each day. The building has a large entry hall, four classrooms, a bathroom, and an office.

The next photo shows inside one of the classrooms. This was the classroom in which Ron worked every day. The windows on the left face the main road through Chimala.

In the following building, individual offices are on the left and the library is on the right.

The next photo shows the door into the library.

The next three photos show the inside of the library.

The pavilion is by the CBC building. There is also one by the CSOP building. Many times students gathered there to visit.

There is a water faucet outside the CBC building. It is a very popular spot for village children to come to get water for their families. It is amazing how much water a young child can carry!

These boys really have a load on their bicycle!

These buckets full of water must be really heavy!

Following is a photo of how the grass is cut on the mission grounds. This was taken behind the CBC building. One of the men asked Eddie if he would like to try to cut some grass. Eddie tried it for a few minutes, but then declared it to be too hard to do for long!

I am enjoying your pictures and comments. Seems so much better than where you were last year.

Those girls have amazing balance! I have to concentrate to balance a book on my head. I'd be soaking wet if I tried to balance a 5+ gal bucket of water on my head!
