Matebete Village, Part 2----the Village Church

The Matebete church building looks much the same as all the village churches. It is a small, one-room building and has no heat or air conditioning.

It had been swept clean for the morning worship.

The "bell" calling everyone to services looks much like the "bell" which is at the hospital that calls everyone to the devos!

The bell is rung.

People began to show up. The first one was this lady with her small child. Standing at the window are two of the nursing students from Harding University. Notice the seating!

Communion has been prepared and is waiting in the window.

People do not seem to mind sitting on the hard benches.
Even the children sit very still.

After worship there is the traditional greeting circle.

Ron and Jan are with some of the church people after the worship service. The young woman on the right is the preacher's wife.

The preacher is holding his small son. The preacher's mother is on the left.
His first wife died, and now he is married to the woman in the previous photo.

Just like everywhere else, the children love to see their pictures!

Isn't he cute!

Boaz, in the middle, is the husband of our cook and is a teacher in the School of Preaching.

Bill S. , on the left, talks with the village official, who is on the right.

Boaz is on the left .
The young man in the middle was an LST reader.

The following video is of the singing.

Bill did the preaching that day. Ezekiel was his interpreter.
