Signal Hill

Another of the places that we visited was Signal Hill. The following photo shows a sign explaining a little about the hill. The sign is in poor condition and is pretty hard to read, but maybe you can read it if you click on it to enlarge it.
The Germans built a navigation signal tower at the top of the hill in 1898.
The place was definitely a hill! It was a long walk up the hill! Along the way we saw bushes with the official flowers of Qingdao.

There was also a pond with figures of dragons, which symbolize good fortune.

At the top of the hill are 3 red mushroom-shaped buildings. The largest of the three is an observation building. Inside are chairs in front of large windows. The chairs are on a rotating floor, which rotates in a complete circle so that you can see the scenery from each of the windows while sitting still. Here are some of the photos taken from the windows of the observation building. Sometimes fog from the ocean rolls in quickly, and you will be able to see the fog rolling in from the first photos to the last ones----a period of about 20 minutes.

The first picture is of the Governor's Mansion, built in 1906 by the Germans.

This old area of Qingdao is known for its red roofs, the green trees, and the blue water of the ocean.
