The Royal Mail

Here is a photo of the normal post office in this area of England. Each little post office also sells basic grocery items, greeting cards, post cards, etc. Each is privately owned, except for the mail part of the store. Right now many of the little independent post offices like this one are worried that they will lose the mail part of their business, as the government is planning to close about 2500 of them. The post offices will find out in December which ones will be closed. The grocery part of the stores could stay in business, but with the postal part gone, they do not feel that they would be able to afford to stay in business. The lady that owns this little store says that Christmas will either be really happy or really sad for her family.

Sign in the window of the post office. (It says, "Lose the Post Office, lose the shop. Lose the shop, lose the post office. Only you can help. Use us or lose us.)

Mail is delivered by a mailman on bicycle. (His big red bags are marked "Royal Mail".) He puts the mail in the door of each home.

We get a free Yeovil newspaper once a week. Collin was really excited to find it in the mail shoot in our front door!

It would be sad to loose a store like that in a small town! We lost our local Duckwalls a few years ago. Now I have to drive 30 miles to get even the smallest thing!

Enjoyed the information about the post office and your mail delivery, especially Collin's picture getting the mail. Keep all the England information coming. So interesting.
